Stephen joined the Grumeti Fund as Director in September 2015. He brings to the Fund a diversity of experience in conservation, wildlife management, safari tourism and general business management. Stephen has a proven track record in conceptualizing, designing and operationalizing conservation projects in Africa.
Prior to the Grumeti Fund, Stephen was recruited to head up the dynamic Sisheke Conservation Project: a long-term public-private partnership to sustainably develop a 1.5 million hectare community-owned conservancy on the Upper Zambezi River in southwest Zambia. Other past roles include; Operations Manager of Chifungulu Ltd, a Zambian-based eco-tourism company; Operations Manager of Wild Places Africa in the wild and remote Kidepo Valley of northern Uganda. Stephen is also a widely published environmental photojournalist, with his conservation stories and images featuring in a diverse portfolio of over 30 international magazines and newspapers.
Stephen holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Duke University & University of Cape Town; a Masters of Wildlife Management from the University of Pretoria; and a Bachelor of Commerce (hons. Environmental Economics) from Stellenbosch University.
